Description

This lecture is a basic overview of common causes of adrenal insufficiency in pediatrics with a focus on adrenal crisis. The basic function of the pituitary gland and adrenal glands will be covered followed by possible signs and symptoms of adrenal crisis.

 

After the course learner should expect to have a full understanding of:

  • Where the pituitary gland and adrenal glands are located along with their basic role in maintaining homeostasis.
  • The severity of a renal crisis, how it may present and the implications of an adrenal crisis being left untreated.
  • Situations that can cause a patient who suffers from adrenal insufficiency to go into crisis.
  • How and when to treat a patient who is in suspected adrenal crisis.
